MISSION OF ROOTS OF RESILIENCE PROJECT
The Roots of Resilience Project is a Chimacum-based effort to grow rural community capacity to navigate ecological and social challenges by developing collaborative networks for long term sustainability, equity, and vitality.
Our Theory of Change:
We believe that resilient communities emerge when neighbors know and trust each other, share resources and knowledge, and work together to address local challenges. In small rural places like Chimacum, transformation happens through relationship-building that bridges diverse perspectives and experiences, and creates networks of collective strategy and mutual support.
Our Approach:
We respond to emergent, locally-led initiatives that strengthen three interconnected foundations of community resilience:
Through community weaving and project collaboration, we build the relational infrastructure that will help our rural region to anticipate challenges, develop inclusive strategies, and be responsive to change in ways that reflect diverse local values and knowledge.
This approach recognizes that in a small agricultural community like Chimacum, resilience grows from the ground up through relationships, collaboration, and the organic evolution of community-led initiatives.

Our Approach:
We respond to emergent, locally-led initiatives that strengthen three interconnected foundations of community resilience:
- Social Connection - We facilitate connections across complexity and nurture the trust needed for collective action through community events, and collaborative projects.
- Local Capacity - We help develop networks and systems for local food production, climate change adaption, emergency preparedness, youth environmental education, and creative cultural expression.
- Adaptive Leadership - We support grassroots leadership and inclusive community weavers who can respond to emerging opportunities and challenges.
