food ACCESS
Roots of Resilience Project supports grassroot efforts to grow and distribute nutritious, locally grown and produced food to community members. We also grow relationships, do advocacy and host conversations about food justice and resilience with partners and farmers. And we host space for the direct action project of Goosefoot Community Farm.
Goosefoot Community Farm is a not-for-profit farm committed to addressing food insecurity in East Jefferson County, WA. We grow certified organic vegetables and distribute one hundred percent of our produce free-of-cost to recipients through local partnerships.
Our mission is to provide high-quality, nutritious, organic produce and increase low-barrier food access for all people regardless of employment status, housing situation, income level, sexual orientation, gender, race, age, or ability.
Goosefoot Community Farm was established in 2019. In our first year, we grew 3,000 pounds of produce, all distributed free-of-cost to recipients. Over the past five years, our project has rapidly grown with the support of our community, and we have distributed over 52,000 pounds of produce to date.
We currently have four distribution partnerships:
- Jefferson Healthcarejeffersonhealthcare.org/, the primary healthcare provider for the more than 29,000 residents of East Jefferson County. In partnership with the Cancer, Diabetes, and Hospice Care departments, we offer a prescription farm share program, in which patients receive a weekly box of our produce;
- Jefferson County Anti-Racist Fund, a community supported reparations and mutual aid project. Goosefoot Farm proudly supports their CSA program, a free weekly food box open to any Black, Indigenous or Person of Color in Jefferson County, regardless of income;
- Recovery Cafe, a drug- and alcohol-free space which uses our veggies to provide free meals for people in any stage of addiction recovery, four days a week.
- Jefferson County Food Bank Association, the core organization serving approximately 8,000 individuals per month through four food bank locations in East Jefferson County.We provide large bulk donations of freshly harvested produce that gets distributed throughout the county.jcfba.org
